Le Méridien Parkhotel Frankfurt
Having arrived direct from Asia it was nice for once to not have a connecting flight but simply jump on the train and have a hotel a minute’s walk from the station. The Le Méridien Parkhotel Frankfurt is located 50 metres southeast of Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.
To celebrate achieving SPG Platinum status in 2014 entirely with award stays I actually paid cash for couple nights because the Christmas rate was simply too good. Oh and this stay pushed me over 50 nights, so SPG Platinum 50 nights with the Suite Night Awards now 😉
Getting off a longhaul flight typically meant arriving overly early. I certainly tried taking my time but there was no way to avoid arriving early when the city hadn’t woken up yet. After catching up with a friend I decided to drop my bags off at the hotel and go out for breakfast. Customer service was welcoming and very accommodating. I was happy to wait for a room but was advised to give it a couple hours and they’ll arrange something. Furthermore we were welcomed to eat breakfast in the restaurant, not something that should have been complementary on the day of arrival but very welcomed. The breakfast spread was solid but lacks the huge diversity you find in Asian and Middle Eastern properties. If I wasn’t getting it included in the rate and from the status it probably wouldn’t be worth paying for however, besides the obvious convenience.
The hotel advertises 4 room types and junior suites. These are split between a modern and the classic wing. The hotel is quite clearly two different building from walking through the lobby. Classic rooms are advertised as a very tight 11-15 square metres for one person and the photo on their website suggests that either the photographer didn’t bring a fish-eye or wide angle lens or the room is so small they couldn’t really capture any of it… Fortunately we were upgraded to the largest room type at a much more reasonable 30 square metres. Deluxe rooms are a single room with a bedroom and small living room on each side with a back-to-back TV setup in the middle. Contemporary furnishings were comfortable and the combined bath/shower in the bathroom was quite adequate. Amenities were somewhat lacking.
The hotel provided a very pleasant stay in Frankfurt. The location is excellent if you’re shuttling from/to the airport. Delta flight crew were noticed, not sure if DL & SPG have corporate contracts beyond their loyalty program partnership. From photos it also looks like the place it a bit more alive during the warmer months, but if you need a place to stay around the Christmas period when businesses shut, well their rate was excellent.
