Museums are often closed in, stuffy experiences and that’s what makes open-air museums great. The museum lies out in the eastern periphery of the Netherlands, just to the north of the town of Arnhem which is less than 20 km from the German border. It’s a small country after all. The museum has a range of things exhibiting Dutch society and industry over the ages. The museum features a period village including examples of tradition methods in production and daily life. There are a huge range of gardens, a petting zoo, contemporary art exhibits and of course massive windmills. It is really a whole day experience. If you’re here for a while there’s the actual zoo not too far away.

This visit was part of my summer school course in Utrecht although because of meetings and other problems I made my own way there separately and later. Was a great day with friends but tiring. It’s basically like crossing the country!
